A typical DeepDive™

We begin by working with you to determine whether you will DeepDive™ on extending your existing business (Strategic Flexibility) or creating new business (Disruptive Innovation). From there, although every DeepDive™ is different, this basic structure offers a good idea of what to expect:

Pre-work

In the weeks before your DeepDive™, we will talk to you and your team to understand your issues in your terms and develop the "Design Challenge" for your workshop: a specific, action-oriented problem statement. This is no open-ended question like "how can we stay successful?" It is a welldefined question that your people will feel they can make progress on. After all, the only way to get the right answer is to ask the right question.

The Morning

First we provide you with the "new vocabulary" in two or three modules of 60-90 minutes — here you'll learn the language and diagrams to quickly apply the frameworks to real-life challenges. Each module consists of a 30-60 minute presentation on specific ideas relevant to the Design Challenge followed by a 20-40 minute exercise in applying those ideas to actual problems.

After two or three real-life cases, your team is ready for...

The Afternoon

Suitably armed, your team is let loose on the Design Challenge. Typically, participants are divided into teams of 4-6 people. Each team is given 30-60 minutes to develop a Prototype — a description of their solution. Time pressures are key: they maintain momentum and keep energy levels high.

The Frenzy follows. Each team reviews the work of the others, giving honest feedback. Remember: polite teams get polite results, so be blunt. And borrow with pride (i.e., steal shamelessly) any great ideas you find.

Multiple rounds of Frenzy lead to Final Prototypes and often a Vote on which Prototype excels. The result: in one day your company will have built upon the insight, creativity, intelligence and experience of 15 to as many as 150 people, all focused on those ideas with the greatest potential.

Follow Up

Clients continue to work with us for anywhere from a few days to a few months... to not at all. All that matters is that you're confident that the actions steps identified in your DeepDive™ will not get lost to the busy-work of daily organization life.
